Ms Karen Stade, QSM of Nelson, for services to historical research and the community
Ms Stade is a member of the Nelson Historical Society and has twice been its President. She has curated several exhibitions at the Nelson Provincial Museum, including ‘Kiwi Keith’ on the life of former Prime Minister Sir Keith Holyoake, and World War One centennial exhibitions examining Nelson’s wartime experiences. She has authored or co-authored a number of publications on Nelson’s history, covering such subjects as New Zealand’s first Chinese immigrant, Nelson’s Italian community, landmarks and family histories. Ms Stade is President of Whakatu Rotary Club and has fundraised in Nelson for Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’ campaign.
