Mr Roy Austin, CNZM of Auckland, for services to children’s health and the community.
Mr Austin is a Board member and Chairman of Cure Kids (formerly National Children’s Health Research Foundation). As Executive Chairman, he led a restructure of the charity, helping it become one of the country’s largest funders of child health research. Over 10 years, Cure Kids has seen a fourfold increase of annual research funding grants, established a government seed investment fund for child healthcare businesses, facilitated the commercialisation of the A2 milk patent for public access to A2 milk benefits, and held national fundraising campaigns such as ‘Red Nose Day’ and ‘Ticket to Hope’. Through Cure Kids, Mr Austin helped fund a Rheumatic Heart Disease Project in Fiji. He also helped form the Rotary Diabetes Prevention Trust and has been involved with a range of other community activities.
