Mrs Dot Charles, of Murchison, QSM for services to the community
Mrs Dot Charles was part of the fundraising committee of the local play centre and was a driving force in raising money for the Murchison Search and Rescue and Emergency Fund in the 1960s. She has organised the Murchison Health Equipment Fund to buy a defibrillator and an X-Ray machine. She has played a key role in building and maintaining the Matakitaki Willowgrove Walkway. She liaised with the Department of Corrections to find placements for offenders carrying out community-based sentences. For several years, Mrs Charles has organised the annual Christmas parade in Murchison and played organ music for hospital patients.
