Mrs Maria Winder, of Auckland, for services to music education
Maria Winder was a founding Trustee and is Chair of the New Zealand Ukulele Trust. She develops the annual Kiwilele Songbook, a collection of Māori and Pasifika songs that she arranges, records, produces, and distributes to primary schools.
She organises free ukulele workshops for teachers and students, culminating in annual festivals. She has fundraised to provide ukuleles for schools.
She is the conductor of the Auckland Primary Principals’ Association’s music festivals. She was Secretary of Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa. She is part of the University of Auckland Chamber Choir and was a chorister with Voices NZ.
Mrs Winder co-authored ‘Hear Our Voices’, a resource for children’s choir leaders.
