Inspector Sam Aberahama, of Gisborne, for services to the New Zealand Police and the community
Inspector Sam Aberahama has worked for the New Zealand Police since 1988 and is now Tairāwhiti Area Commander. He helped establish the Police’s Cook Islands Internal Support Network. He chaired the Safe Tairāwhiti Community Trust until it was amalgamated into Manaaki Tairāwhiti, and he remains a member of that Governance Group. He helped establish the Nga Ara Pai mentoring programme, which assists at-risk youth to obtain their drivers licence, and ‘Te Hahi’, a partnership between police and local churches with a focus on family harm.He was a member on the National Board of Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand. Inspector Aberahama has been instrumental in several successful community projects.
