Mr Bill Fleury, MNZM, of Whanganui, for services to conservation
Bill Fleury began with the Environmental section of the Forestry Service before joining the Department of Conservation.
He co-led the development of an herbicide gel in New Zealand that has been a key tool for woody weed control.
He has been a key part of the Tiakina Ngā Manu (Battle for our Birds) programme, helping pioneer the use of large-scale, low-intensity aerial application of 1080 pesticide.
He led the implementation of the Kaimanawa Wild Horses Plan, protecting the environment and welfare of the herd.
Mr Fleury has advocated for enhanced management of public conservation lands as carbon sinks and jointly initiated the Wild Animal Control for Emissions Management project.
