Ms Carol Berghan, MNZM, of Kaitaia, for services to Māori
Carol Berghan is CEO of Te Hiku Iwi Development Trust. She has facilitated effective and successful partnership engagement between iwi and government agencies to trial and test new ways of working.
She introduced employment trials, launching the TUPU model to help whānau affected by unemployment, and was key to obtaining government support to maintain water supply for Te Hiku members affected by drought.
Ms Berghan chaired the ‘Make It Happen’ Te Hiku Ministerial Taskforce and was Secretariat for the Māori Economic Taskforce.
She was appointed to the Regional Skills Leadership Group for Tai Tokerau and is community advisor to the Local Government Reform.
