Mr Karel Witten-Hannah, of Auckland, QSM, for services to the community and education
Karel Witten-Hannah taught at Massey High School in West Auckland, where he was a member of the Whānau Committee, advocating for Māori students. He was Outdoor Education Coordinator, coached sports, organised trips, and supported Māori and Pacific groups. He helped run Auckland Council’s Youth Leadership courses. He is a Karekare Surf Lifesaving Club patroller and former Club Captain and President. He is Karekare’s Volunteer Civil Defence Coordinator and co-leads the Resilient Karekare Network. He is a founding member of the Piha and Karekare St John First Response Unit. Mr Witten-Hannah is Deputy Chief of the Karekare Rural Fire Brigade.
