Ms Mairehe Tankersley, of Christchurch, MNZM, for services to prisoners’ welfare and Māori
Mairehe Tankersley (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Irakēhu, Kāti Huikai, Kāi Tūtehuarewa) is Chair of Te Rūnaka ki Ōtautahi o Kāi Tahu Trust and has been committed to initiatives with a Kaupapa Māori foundation. She is a Kaiwhakamana and Lead Facilitator of Christchurch Women’s Prison’s Tikanga Māori programme. She is a social worker, Māori educator and Director of Jade Associates – Pounamu Kahuraki, a Māori consultancy providing cultural supervision and training to individuals and groups in education, social services and mental health. Her organisation delivers Tikanga Māori programmes across Canterbury prisons and Community Corrections. Ms Tankersley is part of the group tasked with delivering the Department of Corrections Mana Wahine pathway.
