Ms Te Puea Winiata, of Auckland, ONZM, for services to Māori and health
Te Puea Winiata (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngai Tamarawaho, Waikato Tainui) was one of the first governance members of Te Rau Matatini, New Zealand’s first Māori Mental Health Workforce Development Centre. She founded Te Atea Marino, a Te Whatu Ora – Waitematā-based alcohol and drug service. She is the Chief Executive Officer of Turuki Health Care, focused on creating an integrated health and social service, principled upon Te Ao Māori, to ensure access for all within Tāmaki, East Auckland. She mobilised her team to ensure support was provided to those that needed it most during the COVID-19 pandemic.Ms Winiata has helped lead and establish several collective provider responses within South and East Auckland, including Te Ira, which was formed to address the needs of families impacted by imprisonment.
