Mrs Rita Powick, MNZM, of Picton, for services to Māori, education and governance
Rita Powick (Te Ātiawa, Ngāi Tahu) chaired the National Association of Resource Teachers Advisory Māori. She helped establish Te Pā Wānanga bilingual unit at Omaka Marae. She is Trustee and Chairperson of Waikawa Marae. She leads Wairau’s Taiopenga kapa haka event. She co-chairs Tū Pono Te Mana Kaha o Te Tauihu leadership group, addressing whānau harm in Nelson, Marlborough and Tasman. She supports iwi development as Vice-Chair of Te Ātiawa o Te Waka a Māui Trust. She is a member of Te Tauihu Tikanga Pou, supporting whānau through COVID-19. Mrs Powick has supported Kōhanga Reo development and was involved with Te Tauihu o Te Waka Māui Waitangi Tribunal Hearings.
