Mr Sefita Hao’uli, of Auckland, MNZM for services to Tongan and Pacific communities
Sefita Hao’uli became a journalist in the 1980s. He was instrumental in forming a community trust to take ownership of the Pacific radio frequency, serving as Chair and helping launch radio station 531pi. He was instrumental in the launch of a Tongan-language newspaper and managed the relationship between the 2,000 Tongan workers under the Recognised Seasonal Employer scheme and the Tongan government. With Creative New Zealand, he was Chairman of the Pacific Island Committee and a member of the Arts Board. He sat on the Minister for Pacific Peoples Advisory Council. Mr Hao’uli has been a key mentor and leader in the Pacific community.
