Afghanistan

The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, and Lady Janine Mateparae, made the first State Visit by a New Zealand Governor-General to Afghanistan in April 2013.  Their Excellencies met the President of Afghanistan, HE Hamid Karzai, as well as attending a number of events to mark the contribution of the Provincial Reconstruction Team to Bamyian Province.
