State Opening of Parliament

The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, attended the State Opening of Parliament at Parliament Buildings on 21 December 2011.  The Governor-General read the Speech from the Throne, outlining the Government's legislative agenda for the next three years, in the Legislative Council Chamber.  The ceremony was attended by representatives of the judiciary, the New Zealand Defence Corps, local government leaders and the Diplomatic Corps.
