Associate Professor Tristram Ingham, of Wellington, ONZM for services to the disability community
Associate Professor Tristram Ingham (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga, Ngāti Porou) has been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand as Central Region chair, National Council member, and National Executive Chairperson. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was seconded to the Disability Directorate of the Ministry of Health to advise and support disabled people. He invented the concept of the ‘Covid bubble’, used nationally and internationally during the pandemic. He is a member of the Disabled Persons Organisations Coalition and a representative on the Independent Monitoring Mechanism to the United Nations. He chairs Te Ao Mārama Aotearoa Trust, the peak body representing Māori with lived experience of disability. Associate Professor Ingham helped to establish Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People as Co-Chair of the Partnership Board and Community Reference Group.
