Dr Catherine Ferguson, of Wellington, ONZM for services to otolaryngology
Dr Catherine Ferguson was a pioneer female otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) surgeon in New Zealand and has contributed significantly to otolaryngology training in New Zealand and Australia. She has held several roles with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), including Vice President. She was the first female Chair of the Aotearoa New Zealand National Committee of RACS. She is New Zealand Deputy Chair of the Court of Examiners for RACS. She joined the RACS Expert Advisory Group to investigate and advise on discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment, resulting in the 2022 Building Respect and Improving Patient Safety Action Plan. She helped develop and facilitate the “Operate with Respect” course. Dr Ferguson is a member and former President of the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
