Mr Simon Strombom, of Porirua, MNZM for services to war commemoration and historical preservation
Simon Strombom was a Major with the New Zealand Army. He organised the restoration of more than 3,500 graves in Porirua Cemetery, which led to further working bees at Tawa and Pāuatahanui. Cleaning operations were then expanded, with the New Zealand Remembrance Army charity establishing teams in Auckland, South Taranaki, Dannevirke, Foxton, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin. He has led partnerships with iwi to restore Māori war graves. He organised the inaugural Titahi Bay Anzac on the Beach event. He has helped establish the Cook Islands Remembrance Army and the Australian Remembrance Army. Mr Strombom led a push to engage with high schools and fundraise for further memorials.
