Dr Susan Parry, of Auckland, ONZM for services to gastroenterology
Dr Susan Parry was a consultant gastroenterologist and Clinical Head of Department at Middlemore Hospital. She was the first woman President of the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology. She led a Working Party reviewing evidence for a bowel screening programme in New Zealand. Through her chairing of the National Health Committee on Population Screening and her work in the Screening Unit, she led an effort to improve colonoscopy services and ensure the system was better prepared for screening. As Clinical Director of the Ministry of Health’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, she has been involved in primary care, patient information, data collection, community outreach, equity, and education. She has co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr Parry was Chair of the International Society of Hereditary Gastrointestinal Tumours.
