Mr Brian Smith, of Timaru, KSM for services to rowing
Mr Brian Smith (Ngāi Tahu) coaches rowing at Timaru Boys’ High School. He has led the school to numerous medal wins at the Maadi Cup, the New Zealand Secondary School Rowing Championships, despite significant resource disparities. In terms of student-to-medal ratio, he is one of the most effective secondary school rowing coaches nationwide. He is well regarded for his positive impact on the boys he coaches, including some who have achieved national titles and rowed for New Zealand.
Mr Smith coached the New Zealand Coxed Eight for a Trans-Tasman event and has coached South Island Under 18 teams.
