Mr Andy Macfarlane, of Ashburton, ONZM for services to the deer industry
Mr Andy Macfarlane has been a director of ANZCO Foods, Fonterra, Ngāi Tahu Farming and AgResearch. He is founding Director of Macfarlane Rural Business. He is seen as a ‘go to’ person to undertake industry or science reviews. He was a Lincoln University Councillor and President of the New Zealand Institute of Primary Industry Management.
As Chair of the Deer Industry New Zealand Board, he was the driving force behind a transformative partnership with the Government to help turn around the profitability of the deer industry and realise its commercial potential. He developed a model whereby farmers could form regional groups to identify problems and opportunities, with appropriate expertise made available as required. Mr Macfarlane is Chair of the Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures Fund Plantain Project.
