Mrs Ruth Shaw, of Manapouri, KSM for services to conservation
Mrs Ruth Shaw assisted with rat eradication on Hawea and Breaksea Islands and protested the removal of mature native trees in Manapouri. She helped campaign against construction of a monorail through Fiordland National Park. She joined Earth Trust’s fight to ban drift netting in Southern oceans. She and her husband established the Breaksea Conservation Fund to finance environmental projects. She co-created and co-chaired the Fiordland Sewage Options group and helped to shape Te Anau-Manapouri Water Scheme. Mrs Shaw owns the Three Wee Bookshops in Manapouri and wrote the internationally bestselling memoir ‘The Bookseller at the End of the World’.
