Mr Graeme Kates, of Arthur's Pass National Park, KSM for services to conservation and the community
Mr Graeme Kates’ funding of extensive stoat and rat traps led to the foundation of the Arthurs Pass Wildlife Trust, where his research helped improve knowledge of the Great Spotted Kiwi in the Arthur’s Pass National Park. He helped install 106 kilometres of trap line, which has resulted in capture of over 8000 predator species. He wrote 'Arthur’s Pass: A Guide for Mountaineers', and his website provides updates on track and mountain conditions. He controls invasive weed species, including lupins in the Bealey Valley. Mr Kates also volunteered for Arthur’s Pass LandSAR, and the Arthur’s Pass Volunteer Fire Brigade.
