Terry Smith, MNZM, Danbury, the United Kingdom
For services to New Zealand – United Kingdom relations. Mr Terry Smith led the campaign and was the principal funder for a memorial to Sir Keith Park to be erected in London. The three-year campaign from 2007 to 2010 made two successful planning applications, the first for a temporary six-month installation in Trafalgar Square, and the second for a permanent bronze memorial in Waterloo Place, close to New Zealand House. The permanent memorial was unveiled in September 2010. The campaign also sought to raise awareness of Sir Keith Park as a New Zealand war hero in order to recognise his contribution to the successful outcome of the Battle of Britain and the special relationship between New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
