Sir Desmond Britten, KNZM, Wellington
For services to the community. Sir Desmond Britten was Wellington City Missioner for 18 years until his retirement in 2011. He provided services for people in the Greater Wellington region who were at risk or struggling to achieve a good quality of life. He was previously vicar at St Barnabas Church, Roseneath. Before this he ran the Wellington Coachman Restaurant for 28 years, was a television chef and radio host, and wrote a number of cookbooks. He holds a place in the New Zealand Chefs Hall of Fame and has maintained an association with broadcasting through frequent guest slots as a food critic. He was a columnist for 'The Dominion Post' for 14 years. Sir Desmond was appointed as a Canon Emeritus in the Diocese of Wellington in 2011.
