Howard Anderson, QSM, Patea
For services to the community. Mr Howard Anderson was a scout and venturer leader in Patea for more than 20 years. He re-established and was the editor/publisher of the 'Patea Mail', a monthly community newspaper, and is a minister in the Anglican Church. Along with these voluntary commitments to the Patea community, he owned and ran the only pharmacy in the Patea area. He established a $100,000 fund to finance purchasers of the pharmacy after his retirement to ensure that pharmacy services would continue in Patea. He was also Vice President of the Patea Historical Society and Museum, and served as secretary of and Chair of the Patea Film Society. He established an annual science prize at Patea High School. He held a variety of positions, including President, of the Patea Businessmen’s Association, and he has contributed financially to a number of Patea organisations and causes. Mr Anderson recently completed a two-CD oral history recording for the Oral History Trust about his 50-year involvement in the Patea community.
