Mike Eagle, Christchurch, ONZM, for services to rugby
Mr Mike Eagle is the Chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union. He took over the position of NZRU Chairman in 2010 and subsequently was a member of the board that organised the Rugby World Cup. He is also the NZRU appointee on the Highlanders Board. His rugby background stems from 14 years of play for the Albion Club at the senior level as well as several seasons on the Canterbury B side. He was elected to the committee of the Albion Club before being elected as Chairman of the Canterbury Executive Committee from 1996 to 2002. He continued to serve after the Executive Committee was streamlined into the Canterbury Board as well as taking the position of Chairman on the Crusaders Board from 1996 to 2002. He was elected as representative of the Southern Zone for the NZRU in 2002. Mr Eagle is the co-owner of the Christchurch-based Melray Electrical, which he helped establish in the late 1980s.
