Irene Livingston, Lower Hutt, MNZM, for services to the community
Ms Irene Livingston helped re-establish the Hutt Rape Counselling Network, where she has worked for 14 years as a crisis interventionist/sexual assault support worker. She recognised the need for a single safe environment for victims of sexual assault and helped re-establish premises for the Hutt Rape Counselling Network where medical, forensic, counselling and Police support could be provided. In her role as a crisis support worker she responds to Police callouts when sexual assault or rape cases are reported, often making herself available 24/7 to provide prompt assistance. She provides a support network for victims from their first call for help, up to the conclusion of court processes, which can take 12 to 18 months. She has delivered presentations to Hutt Valley schools and youth groups on sexual activity and safety. Ms Livingston has developed and delivered training for the Royal New Zealand Police College across the country including a compulsory week-long Adult Sexual Abuse course for Police investigators.
