Mrs Margaret (Hazel), QSM, and Mr Neil MacMillan, QSM, Okaihau
For services to the community. Mrs Hazel MacMillan has served the Okaihau community for almost 30 years, in many roles across a number of organisations. She was a member of Rural Women New Zealand from 1978 to 2008 and held positions at a community and provincial level, including President, branch secretary, provincial secretary, and provincial President. She was a founding member of the Life Education Trust in the Far North in 1991, and continues to be involved. She is a committee member and secretary of the Utakura Pioneer Memorial Trust. She has been a member of the Kaikohe and District Memorial RSA since 1991 and served on the Women’s Section. She has previously been involved with Meals on Wheels, Federated Farmers, and the Okaihau Playcentre. Mrs MacMillan has been a member of the Okaihau Community Association since 2003 and is a founding member of the Civil Defence committee.
Mr Neil MacMillan has been involved with the Farm Cadet Scheme/Farm Education Training Association since 1985, including seven years as Chair. He was Okaihua and Bay of Islands District President and Dairy Section Councillor of Federated Farmers from 1984 to 1993. From 1993 to 2001 he was appointed as a Director to the Northland Dairy Company. He has been on the committee of the Animal Health Board since 1994, and Chair since 2006 of the Northland Regional Animal Health Committee. He has served as President and Treasurer of the Okaihau Lions Club. For 20 years he has organised the local ANZAC Day service. He was Vice President of the Kaikohe and District RSA for 10 years and has been President for almost 4 years. He has been on the Okaihau War Memorial Committee for more than 10 years, and is a committee member of the Okaihau Community Association. Mr MacMillan has been treasurer of the Utakura Pioneer Memorial Trust for six years.
