Cheryl Cameron, MNZM, Porirua
For services to film. Ms Cheryl Cameron is the producer and director of over 30 films, which have covered a wide range of topics including science, health and ecology. She produced and directed 'Destination Disaster', a television documentary about the sinking of the 'Mikhail Lermontov' in the Marlborough Sounds. She was awarded Best Director in the TV Guide New Zealand Television Awards in 2000 and Best Documentary at the Qantas Media Awards in 2001. She created two wildlife films for National Geographic, and was awarded a Certificate of Creative Excellence in the United States International Film and Video Festival in 2001 for 'A Tale of Three Chimps'. Ms Cameron is a trustee of the Pauatahanui Inlet Community Trust. She has created an internet documentary series to create awareness in the Porirua community about the eco-system of Porirua Harbour, including interviewing and co-ordinating with scientists, local community leaders, community action groups and concerned locals.
