John Tristram, QSO, Lower Hutt
For services to Land Search and Rescue. Mr John Tristram has been involved with Land Search and Rescue activities for more than 50 years. He helped to establish the national organisation to oversee volunteer involvement in Land Search and Rescue. After 35 years of voluntary service to search and rescue, he was employed in 1995 as the first New Zealand Land Search and Rescue National Field Officer based in Police national headquarters. He retired in 2006, and continued his involvement as a volunteer. He is currently the Chair of the LandSAR New Zealand Search Dogs group. His input has helped to shape LandSAR Dogs into an effective unit. He has also been President of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club, of which he is a life member. He is Chair of the Wellington Associated Tramping and Mountaineering Club, and Chair of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand search and rescue subcommittee, which is responsible for approximately 2,500 volunteers. Mr Tristram has also been a member of the Wellington Alpine Cliff Rescue team.
