Colin Heslop, Culverden, QSM, for services to the community
Mr Colin Heslop has devoted 40 years to supporting horse-related sports and brass instrument-based music in the Amuri District. He has been President of both the Balmoral Pony Club and the Amuri Cob and Pony Sports Club. He has organised the Amuri Cob and Pony Sports Club gymkhana for 40 years and has helped build jumps and judge young riders at rallies for the Waiau and Balmoral Pony Clubs. He built a rodeo training facility on his property in 1991 and offered coaching and practice free of charge. His facility has produced five national rodeo champions in the last 20 years. He has raised the profile of rodeo in the Canterbury area through Agriculture and Pastoral Association shows and as a member of the founding committee for Canterbury Rodeo. He is a life member of the Rangiora Brass Band and has tutored younger members of the band as well as facilitated transport to practices and performances. He plays ‘The Last Post’ at every ANZAC service in the district. Mr Heslop was presented with a life membership to the RSA for his musical services.
