John Lockyer, Feilding, QSM, for services as a rugby referee
Mr John Lockyer has been a coach, referee and trainer of referees for local, national and international rugby for 43 years. Mr Lockyer has refereed Senior A games for both Wellington and Manawatu Rugby Unions and was one of the top five referees in the Wellington region in 1984. He coached and refereed rugby in these two regions for 24 years before qualifying as an assessor to train referees in 1993, which he continues to do. He has travelled to Japan to train referees, and has trained two referees who in the last decade have each held the Top Manawatu Referee position. He has served as Chairman of the coaching and grading committees for Wellington and Manawatu and manager of the Under 18 Manawatu Representative Team. Throughout his years of service to the Wellington and Manawatu Rugby Unions he has held various positions on their management committees. Mr Lockyer is a life member of both the Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association and the Manawatu Rugby Referees Association.
