For services to nursing. Ms Kirsty Murrell-McMillan, a registered nurse, became Chair of the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network in 2008. She has been an innovative leader at a national level, addressing disparities in health leadership through being instrumental in the merger of the Rural Nurses National Network, and the Rural General Practice Network. She advocates for support for rural medical practices, and for the value and significance of multidisciplinary teams. In late 2009, Ms Murrell-McMillan was appointed by the University of Otago as a Professional Practice Fellow to develop Invercargill as a centre for learning in General Practice. She is now completing studies to be a nurse practitioner in Southland.
