Riki McDonnell, Auckland, QSM, for services to brass bands
Mr Riki McDonnell is a brass musician who has won 31 New Zealand solo titles over a 36-year period on four different instruments: tenor horn, flugel horn, euphonium and baritone horn. In 2002 he became the first New Zealander to win the International Euphonium Player of the Year Award. He has performed internationally on many occasions, including a tour of Hong Kong and New Zealand with the renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band from South Yorkshire, England. He is a long-term member of the New Zealand National Brass Band. Mr McDonnell provides on-going financial support to the National Youth Brass Band and the National Secondary Schools Brass Band.
