Royal Assent to Income Tax Act
The largest Act ever passed by the New Zealand Parliament, the Income Tax Act 2007, was signed into law at a brief ceremony at Government House in Wellington by the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, on 1 November 2007. The Act is not only 2855 pages long, but also the last to be presented by Clerk of the House of the Representatives, David McGee QC, (pictured right) who is leaving the post after 22 years to become an Ombudsman. Also at the ceremony was Revenue Minister, Hon Peter Dunne, who was responsible for the Act's passage through Parliament.
