Helen Huddleston
Helen Huddleston, of Balclutha, received The Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. Mrs Huddleston has been involved in the Balclutha community for many years. She has been involved with the Emergency Services Trust for more than 15 years and was the deputy health liaison officer for the Clutha District Civil Defence Organisation. She looks after members of the community in many capacities, including looking after terminally ill people, driving people to doctors and hospital appointments, and knitting for newborn babies. She has been involved with the Balclutha Scout Association for 25 years and is a kea leader. She has been involved with the Clutha Women’s Rugby Committee for more than 35 years and was the Clutha schoolboy rugby convener for more than 10 years. Mrs Huddleston was awarded the Otago Rugby Woman of the Year award in 1993.
