John McLellan
John McLellan, of Palmerston, received The Queen's Service Medal for services to marine search and rescue. Mr McLellan has been involved with marine search and rescue, and marine radio in North Otago for many years. He contributed to the provision of the 24-hour marine fisheries for over 50 years and assisted with the organisation of the annual general meeting for radio operators. He established Moeraki Marine Radio in 1953 and has been the chair and marine search advisor for North Otago Search and Rescue for over 50 years. Mr McLellan was a member of the Dunedin Marine Search and Rescue Organisation and Maritime Radio for Otago/Southland Region. In 2009, Mr McLellan was awarded the gold award for the most significant contribution to search and rescue in New Zealand.
