Ratapu (Hori) Te Awa MNZM
Ratapu (Hori) Te Awa, of Huntly, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori. Mr Awa has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Waahi Whaanui Trust for the last 22 years, which is responsible for developing health, social, educational and employment services for Waikato-Tainui people and the wider Huntly community. He is a trustee of the Kaitumutumu Marae and the Te Iwi o Waikato representative on the Waikato District Health Board Iwi Māori Council. He is also a member of the Tangata Whenua Community Sector Taskforce, and co-Chair of the Kia Tutahi Steering Group, which was formed to develop a relationship agreement between communities and government.. He was a member of the Waikato Conservation Board from 1990 to 1998, and of the Waikato Community Trust, which he Chaired from 2003 to 2007.
