Ngahuia Te Awekotuku
Professor Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, of Hamilton, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori culture. She has lectured on Maori and Pacific art history at the University of Waikato, the University of Auckland and Victoria University. She was the curator of ethnology at the Waikato Museum. She headed the New Zealand delegation at the Pacific Festival of the Arts in 2008 and was a New Zealand representative to the United Nations, World Intellectual Property Organisation. Professor Te Awekotuku has been a spokesperson on Māori, gay and women’s issues and was the co-author of Mau Moko: the World of Māori Tattoo.
