Evelyn MacDonald
Evelyn MacDonald, of Green Bay, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to bird rescue and animal welfare. Ms MacDonald rescues birds and cares for ill wildlife. She takes animals into her own home at her own personal expense to tend to them. She has been involved with the SPCA Birdwing group, the Bird Rescue Tamaki Estuary Centre, and was a volunteer for Waitakere Animal Welfare. She has lectured on bird rescue and other specialist subjects. She has researched botulism and advised the local council on controlling problems that botulism causes over the summer period. Ms MacDonald is currently setting up and building a purpose designed hospital for the 10,000 birds a year that the Bird Rescue Centre handles.
