John Sutherland
John Sutherland, of Glendowie, received the Insignia of an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to architecture. Mr Sutherland has been an architect and teacher for more than 50 years. He played an important part in the development of the Bachelor of Architecture programme at the Unitec Institute of Technology. He has been involved with a number of notable buildings including the University of Auckland Arts and Commerce and the Old Arts Building, the Majestic Centre in Wellington and The Museum of New Zealand – Te Papa Tongarewa. He was President of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. Mr Sutherland was awarded the New Zealand Institute of Building Medal in 1990 and is a Life member and Fellow of the NZIA in 1999.
