Denis Hansen, of Ranui
Denis Hansen received the Queen's Service Medal for services to Māori and the community. Mr Hansen has contributed to Māori and the Auckland community for more than 30 years. He held a number of positions at the Department of Māori Affairs and has been involved in penal reform policy, victim support, and restorative justice and rehabilitation projects. He has worked to eliminate youth gang violence from inner Auckland and facilitated mediations between gangs. He is a foundation member of several marae, including the Orakei Marae and the Piringatahi Marae. He has been involved with the Ngapuhi Advisory Board to Runanga and Te Whanau O Waipareira, which he founded. Mr Hansen has also been actively involved with rugby for many years in the Auckland region. He is an ex-Māori All Black and was Chairperson of Māori Rugby.
