Lorraine Edwards, of Taumaranui
Lorraine Edwards received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. Mrs Edwards has for many years given unstintingly of her time to serve the people of Taumarunui and surrounding communities in a voluntary capacity. Her involvement has included work as a health associate, a marriage and funeral celebrant and Justice of the Peace. She has been a member of Victim Support for almost 20 years, and was Chairperson for 12 years until 2007. She was instrumental in establishing Neighbourhood Watch in Taumarunui. She is an ordained Chaplain and has been a key member of the St Paul’s Parish Council for many years. She has been a long-serving examination manager for extramural exams, has contributed years of her time to school committees and organising school reunions, and has been actively involved in caring for children and the elderly in the community. Mrs Edwards’ voluntary contribution to the community was recognised with a Taumarunui Citizen of the Year Award in 2002.
