Arthur Marshall
Emeritus Professor Arthur Marshall, of Mt Albert, received the Insignia of a Distinguished Companion of the NZ Order of Merit on 23 September 2008. Professor Marshall has been a researcher and architectural acoustical scientist for over 35 years and recently retired as head of the Acoustics Research Centre at the University of Auckland. He developed the Directed Reflection Sequent Concept, which concerns the importance of the lateral reflection and spatial impression in halls and was first demonstrated in the acoustical design of the Christchurch Town Hall in 1968. Other applications of the technology include the Michael Fowler Centre, the Performing Arts Centre in Sydney, the Orange County Performing Arts Centre, and the Philharmonie de Paris.
