Eleanor Barton
Eleanor Barton, of Hamilton, received the Queen's Service Medal, for services to Maori and the community, on September 24. She is noted for her assistance to the late Dame Te Atairangikaahu, travelling with her throughout New Zealand and internationally. She is involved with Maori tennis competitions and has promoted the sport among youth in the region. She also promotes education and social well-being for Maori as well as positive relationships between Maori and non-Maori. Miss Barton is involved with Te Reo Rangatira, Parentline, the Hamilton branch of the Maori Women’s Welfare League, Te Wananga o Aotearoa and the Waikato University Council.
