Christopher Doig, Christchurch, CNZM
For services to the arts and sport. Mr Doig has been a pre-eminent international opera singer, and was the Director of the International Festival of the Arts from 1992 to 1995, Chief Executive Officer of New Zealand Cricket from 1995 to 2001, and Chair of Creative New Zealand. He was Deputy Chair of Sport and Recreation New Zealand and is on the boards of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Rowing New Zealand, the Winter Games Trust and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Foundation. In his role as Director of the New Zealand Arts Festival, he worked to change a loss-making organisation into a successful, well-funded one. In his role as the Chief Executive Officer of New Zealand Cricket, he increased the revenue from $6.8 million to $22 million in three years and increased the staff from nine to 33. He was a strong contributor to the establishment of the highly regarded Cricket Academy and High Performance Centre at Lincoln University. Mr Doig has previously received the insignia of an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
