Karla Hammond, Whakatane, QSM
For services to people with disabilities. Mrs Hammond has been a member of Quota International Whakatane since 2000 which raises money for the disabled, and for disadvantaged women and children, and community projects. She is Lieutenant Governor for New Zealand and assumed the Governor's role in June 2010. She was named Quota International Volunteer of the Year for 2004/2005. She was Mayoress of Whakatane for six years and worked to support her husband in his role as Mayor as well as contributing a significant amount of community work herself. She has been involved with organising the Biennial Eve Rimmer Games, a multisports event for people with disabilities, since it was first held in Whakatane in 2000. She has been an elected member of the Kawerau Social Services Trust, which administers the Mountain View Aged Care Complex, since 2004. Mrs Hammond is Patron of the Bay of Plenty Disabled Persons Assembly and the Whakatane Arts and Crafts Society.
