Martin Sullivan
Dr Martin Sullivan, of Palmerston North, received the Insignia of a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order for services to people with disabilities, on 2 September 2008. Dr Sullivan has been an advocate for the disabled community for more than 20 years, campaigning for the better treatment of disabled people, the need for disability support services, and conducting educational research. He was a ministerial appointee to the Ministry of Health’s National Ethics Advisory Committee and has been an adviser on disability issues for many organisations. He teaches the only university based disability studies course and has led research into paraplegia. Dr Sullivan co-edited the New Zealand Journal of Disability Studies and has contributed chapters to international textbooks on research ethics.
