Wynton Rufer
Wynton Rufer, of Auckland received the Insignia of a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit for services to soccer, on 3 September 2008. His career included 10 caps for the New Zealand Under 19s and 38 caps for the New Zealand All Whites. He was a member of the 1982 New Zealand World Cup team and has also had an extensive international playing career with Norwich City, FC Zurich, and SV Werder Bremen. He has received a number of international awards, including the FIFA Oceania Player of the Century, the FIFA 100 legends List, and the 1990’s Player of the Decade. He is a FIFA Ambassador against Racism and was elected to the FIFA Players Committee in 1998.
