Kieran Garvey
Br Kieran Garvey, of Wellington, received the Queen’s Service Medal for services to prison chaplaincy, on 2 September 2008. Br Garvey has provided 35 years of service as a prison chaplain, 17 of them at Wellington Prison where he has been the Senior Catholic Chaplain. He also supports and mentors other prison chaplains, has served on the Interdenominational Prison Chaplaincy, and was instrumental in the establishment and subsequent management of the Prison Chaplaincy Service of Aotearoa New Zealand. Br Garvey has also been involved in the administration of the International Prison Chaplain’s Association, helping to enhance New Zealand’s relationship with the international chaplaincy community
